My dentist wants to do a root canal on one of my front teeth, but because of an extremely painful previous root canal I want to avoid this at all costs...
Is there anything homeopathic, especially EO oriented that I can do to heal or preserve my damaged nerve?

Hiya

First, get a second opinion if you can.

Second, if you have to have the work done, use Clove Oil directly on the spot (but not where the skin has been broken - maybe dilute and rub on outside of cheek). Clove is notable for killing toothache, and I don't travel on holiday without it.

Thanks for the reply, I did try clove oil, although I suspect it didn't work because the one I bought obviously wasn't therapeutic grade...

To be honest, if you have an infection in the root, there is nothing you can use naturally that will get right into the root of the tooth which is embedded in the jawbone.

Whilst uncomfortable, the treatment should never be terribly painful as they should give you a local anaesthetic to numb the nerve. You may feel a bit sore afterwards, but if the job is done properly, you should be much more comfortable after the treatment.

If it hurts, that's because the dentist hasn't properly anaesthetised you - if it happens again, tell him/her!

I do sympathise because years ago I had a root canal which had me in tears of pain. I vowed I would never have another one. However on my last trip to my (new) dentist, he thought I might need another root canal (I didn't) and I told him of my fear. He said that it's different now and that he could guarantee that it wouldn't be as painful as it was last time. Also I know lots of people who had root canal in India, of all places, and they said it really wasn't too bad. HTH
