I know I'm a bit late in replying to this, however, I just can't resist!!!
You ABSOLOUTLY can do a LOVELY sinus relief treatment in a chair! Sorry for the length of this, but the following is a training document I put together for my co-workers. Enjoy!
SINUS RELIEF TREATMENT (Neti Massage)
Gentle lymphatic drainage for the face and neck is combined with sinus acupressure, followed by a deep massage to head, neck and scalp and topped off with a custom blended tented steam. This detoxifying treatment is excellent for allergy and sinus sufferers, as well as those with chronic headaches and migraines.
Supplies
Massage Chair
Twin Flat Sheet for Draping
Massage Oil or Lotion
Electric Kettle
2 or 3 cleansing essential oils (Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Clove, Peppermint or Tea Tree)
Pipette
Small bowl for essential oil(s)
Large Sheet for Tent
Bowl of Cool Water
Cool Washcloth (for eyes)
Bath Towel
4 Hand Towels
Tissues
Wastebasket
Set Up
- Arrange chair so that you have easy access around the chair from every direction and face cradle is towards an outlet
- Fill tea kettle with water and have ready (plugged in, but not on) in front of chair
- Fill bowl with cool water and soak wash cloth
Beginning the Service
- Explain the benefits of Neti Massage to the client and then explain the procedures demonstrating how to sit in the chair and drape with their sheet (This is a good time to adjust chair to the client while they re dressed).
- Next, let client experience and choose which essential oil, or blend of oils, they would like to use. If they choose more than one oil, make blend in front of them so they can smell the finished product to make sure it's agreeable. (Make sure to explain to them before inhaling the first aroma that they will be strong aromas, and that is on purpose and okay.)
- Finally, make sure client is clear on what the service will entail and ask if they have any questions and are comfortable.
Steps
- Repetitive lymphatic drainage for neck, throat and face sitting face up in the chair (25 times)
- Pressure over sinus points Above brows, medial brows, nose, cheekbones and chin (3 clockwise, 3 counter clockwise and static pressure)
- Repeat repetitive lymphatic drainage for neck, throat and face sitting face up in the chair (25 times)
- Turn client around in chair for scalp and neck massage squares, cranial sutures, dry shampooing and brush rolling if available all systematically around entire scalp, massage shoulders, neck and sub-ops
- Turn kettle on and tent client with king sized sheet and arrange so there are no obvious pockets or holes
- Hand client cool cloth for eyes
- When kettle is steaming, place under the sheet. When client tells you that the steam is significant, add first drop of oil. Oil should be added approximately every 10 seconds or when client asks for more.
o It's important to communicate with client at this point as the aroma experience can become quite overwhelming for some clients. We want it to be strong and clearing, but always comfortable.
o The steam tent should last at least five, but no more than 10 minutes
- Turn off steam and wait a minute before removing drape to let client start cooling down.
- Remove back of tent first and wrap bath towel around client
- As you pull the tent off completely, try to dry the clients exposed skin and then hand them a clean hand towel to use as needed
- Finally hand them a few tissues and put box where they can easily get more and point out the waste basket location
