Handwashing & Chair Massage?

Hi Everyone,
I searched and searched (and got distracted reading interesting threads...) but could not find anything regarding washing your hands inbetween chair massage clients.

I was recently asked to do chair massage for a good cause.
A women who worked with me at my previous job (at a hospital) was hit by a car.
The employees there are planning on having a bake sale to help her family with medical expenses and asked if I would donate my time and proceeds to the event.

I was thinking that I could bring my chair and let people donate for each 5-10min? massage ,however, it will be in the lobby of the hospital.

Do you wash your hands inbetween clients? Maybe just a squirt of disinfectant? If I go into the bathroom in between ea. person, thats going to take up alot of time. What is the usual protocol??

I carry hand sanitizer when I do chair massage, and use that between clients. Well, actually, I carry hand sanitizer all the time, lol. But if washing my hands is an option, I much prefer to wash my hands!

Yes, normally I would just use soap and water. This situation is just a little different for me.

I would absolutely wash my hands between!

I also sanitize my lotion bottle and door knobs between each client in my regular clinic as well. I'm a stickler for SANITATION. Especially in this day and age of MRSA scares and everything else.

For chair massage, since you usually don't have a sink handy I either use hand sanatizer, or the spray I have to wipe down the chair. I use water, alchohol, and usually ti-tree oil in a bottle.

Don't forget, since it is chair massage, you won't be touching as much skin, so the risk of picking up something is reduced.

You could just stick to the back and shoulders. If it is a hot day, you could use cool wet wipes or something to wipe down the hands first before a few compressions and a quick hand massage. (if you are going to include hands in your routine.)

Sams Club sells sanitizing gel by the 1/2 gallon...

I hate the feel of gel hand sanitizer on my hands, so I always take lots of paper towels and baby wipes, so I can sanitize but get the residual gel off my hands if it feels like it's just "building up".

Massage Warehouse sells anti-bacterial/microbial hand wipes called sani-dex that are great for use in hospitals. It dries a lot quicker that the gels. They have another type to use to sanitize the chair as well.

I just use wintergreen-scented rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Disinfects, doesn't harm the chair, dries quickly, smells great. Spray on your chair and wipe down with paper towels. Spray some on your hands...do the handwash thing....dries in seconds. There's also a citrus-scented alcohol.
