Good oils for massage ?

I want to experiment on my other half, but want to know what products to buy for it. Which oils do you use? Are there any oils that could possibly cause allergic reactions? Do you use baby oil to give a good feel to the skin as well? Any other ideas on this please ?

Hi Chris

Baby oil will smell too strong and is very greasy. The safest approach with allergies is to use grapeseed oil.

I personally like to use water dispersible light oils because they don't leave a greasy feel which helps when the client has to put their clothes back on because a towel will take away any oil and also because the oil washes out of towels and couch covers very easily. Soothing touch do a fragrance free lite oil and melrose do a water disperible H2oil. Both are very good or just stick with plain old grapeseed!

Never ever use baby oil, it is a mineral oil, and a by product of petrol !!

Use either Sweet Almond or Grapeseed, the latter for less allergic reactions Or you could use a massage wax, have a look on Songbird Naturals they do some lovely waxes.

Many thanks for those ideas, it's very much appreciated. What oils do what please ? As we know, some oils illicit different feelings in the person smelling them. Plus, is it ok to use some of these oils on the skin ?

I use jojoba oil exclusively. It may be a little more expensive that grapeseed but the benefits outway the cost.

Jojoba is actually not an oil but a liquid wax and as such washes out easily at low temperatures thus reducing laundry cost, particularly if you use sheets instead of towels. Native Americans have long used jojoba to help heal sores and wounds. Today it is more commonly used in cosmetics, particularly moisturisers. The chemical composition of jojoba closely resembles the skins own sebum and has many antimicrobial as properties, is easily absorbed and rarely causes allergic reactions to even the most sensitive skin.

So you specifically want Essential Oils ?? Best to just use Lavender if you are not an Aromatherapist, it's the best safest oil there is and has a multitude of uses.

Dont use essential oils neat on the skin, always mix them with a base (massage) oil.

Jojoba and Grapseed oil are the two I use most of the time.

Very easily accessible and Grapseed is very reasonable.
