hiya everyone, just wondered if any of you massage elderly/geriatric patients in care/nursing homes?
other than typcial contra-indications for some elderly patients and clearly staying away from them, with others trouble free, have you needed to work with the visiting nurse or and doctor of your elderly patients before treating them to a light massage or had to seek their permission first?
Iam workind in nursing at present and a qualified sports therapist with three diplomas and NVQ3s in sport and fitness therapies and swedish massage etc. I am considering treating the elderly as well as my other clients. I have studied hard recently regarding symptoms of the elderly etc and because i am with them on a daily basis and see many leg ulcers and residents stook in wheel chairs all day i have seriously considered this line of work also and know they would find it very beneficial in deed.
what are your thoughts? do you have many elderly patients?
I would like your honest opinions on this line of work as im eager to have a discussion with the senior management and area management shortly.
