I guess it's a sure bet that you're gained your client's trust when they go from not being comfortable enough to remove their bra to baring all and turning over as soon as you raise the face rest before you have a chance to grab the sheet... and they don't care. It one way that frustrates me as I rush to fix the sheet before it's all twisted and things I don't want to see are exposed, but I guess when I look at it from the factor of them feeling so comfortable with me.. that means we've come a long way. Nevertheless, when I have a male on the table, I have gotten into the habit of adjusting the face rest fast and laying a hand on their shoulder to keep them in place until I'm ready.

One of my proudest moments is when I heard my boyfriend (finally) say he likes massage. Not so much of a modesty issue, he simply stated he didn't enjoy massage. For the first two years we were together, I almost pestered him to get massages. (Definitely NOT my usual approach to those who don't want massage.) When he did get on the table, it was almost like trying to massage a hyper-active child, and that session was seriously 10 minutes and he was DONE. Over the years, the time he could tolerate being on the table increased, and when I finally switched him to side lying, that sealed the deal and he can now handle 60 minutes. He now requests massage, sometimes just 15-20 minutes on his feet or sometimes an hour swedish. He even loves hot stones, but not in the summer.

My husband was the same. It took a year and a half for him to accept my therapeutic touch instead of him saying, "Just hand me the BenGay". lol He has come a very long way though. He went from not accepting me doing massages at all, to recommending me to his male co-workers. That is huge!

I know what you mean!
When it is a client that I have had for a long time it doesn't feel strange at all.
But I have had some clients who (I guess) are very comfortable with their bodies.
If I don't know someone and they bare their breasts I have to admit that I am a little uncomfortable and get a little flustered.
It's almost as if they are "flashing" me.

I know - I am such a silly, straight-laced, old lady!

Men are usually more modest. Many are starting to wear boxer briefs and do not remove them for massage.
I never know how much I should try to schoooch them up their leg to access upper thigh.
And do they want glute work or not?

It's fabulous to have clients that trust you that much. Makes my work so much easier, because the conversations about their health, their physical concerns for their massage sessions, etc eversomuch more clear and concise.

My biggest trust appreciation is being able to tell a client that she/he needs to be referred out to Dr. Xyz or Chiro Abc or another type of specialist because I have specific concerns or "hunches" about what their body really is in need of, AND THEY DO IT without complaining, doubting my judgement, etc. That's most gratifying and such a trust builder for me.

I agree. I've learned to do elbow work on glutes through the sheet. It works for men that wear boxers, as well as many of the more modest female clients I've had.

I can still access anything that I would normally, in fact, I actually feel like I can gain more access to attachments by the sacrum with less resistance from the client or without having to worry about my draping being in the perfect position. I then can drape more modestly and do some of my normal techniques on glutes, but I don't feel bad about having to skip that part if they are wearing something that covers the area (like male's boxers) because I already addressed the area.

Otherwise, I agree with both TouchofGrace and AnastasiaB.

I love when I give them stretches or suggestions and they actually do it and find out (go figure) it works!

lol I was afraid I had created a monster but he only lets me work on him when he's hurting really bad. Otherwise, he works on me. :grin: I've finally gotten him convinced that fist pressure on my right glute is ok...really it is! lol

It's opposite here. Men are hot. And no, I don't mean it that way : This southern heat can be stifling and the sheet irritates them. I use a towel to drape a couple of my male regulars who are so hot natured.
