Full on cold after aroma massage? Help!

Ive just come back from one of the best holidays Ever and up to thurlast weeki was on a BIGHigh,however onwednesday last weekI was given an aromatherapy massage which was great it seemed to have lots of pressure pointsbeing used in it and the oils were lemon,jasmine,lavender........then on the thursday i had a really bad head ache and a sore throat now ive got the worse cold ever.... im coughing up green stuff[:'(].. and my voice keeps coming and going....[X(]

Anways this has neverhappen to me before.
Is this just a normal cleansing process?
Or is it just a summer cold?
Or is it something else?

Did the cold develop at the end of the holiday, or after you got back? Did you have a long flight before the cold came on? If you flew, it may be that you picked upa virus during the flight, rather than the infection being initiated by the treatment - unless, of course, the therapist had the sniffles?

Yes i did have a long flight 9 hours...........[&:]
I got back in England on the wed 16th and the cold andsore throat started on the followingthurs 24th. I did wonder if i might have picked it up from the flight?
I dont think the therapist had the sniffles, but i dont think she washed her hands before the treatment?
Iwas taught to wash hands before and after... and during
I use two seperatepots of oils for face and body...soonce ive finished doing the body i wash my hands and mix up more oils andused them on the face...

It's extremely common to have what seems like an adverse reaction after receiving a complementary therapy, such as massage, reflexology or aromatherapy. Some people react after just one treatment, and others maybe after a few.

This is what is known as 'the healing crisis' in which the body eliminates toxins that have been released during the treatment. Other reactions include, excessive urination, bowel evacuation, sinus problems, or emotional elimination such as tearfulness or laughter. It can be likened to getting an outbreak of spots after a facial.

The advice would be to continue with treatments (I know you're not on holiday now), to continue with the cleansing process. Once you are through the cold, you should feel better than you've done in a long time.

Thanks for your reply. I was also thinking on the lines that maybe it could be the healing crisis, but ive been having a lot of complementary therapy as im studying reflexology at the moment..
Also imhaving shiatsuevery couple of weeks and again ive never had such an adverse reaction...[&:]

I am qualified in massage and aroma so i am in tune with what can come out after a treatment, but ive just never had this happen to me before...?

Hi Hallos,

I had a similar thing happen to me coming back from Australia, a very bad Sinus problem & cold after about a week. I tried lots of things but the best was lemon, eucalyptus, & ginger,as a steam treatment and in the bath. I also tried salt water (this is going to sound gross but you try to inhale the salt water - under water if you see what I mean)! - be careful if you try this

As for therapist washing hands - you should wash them for each part of the body you are working on (I do if the sink is not handy I use the hand wash that they use in hospitals- be careful as it drys hands out so use plently of oil)!

I agree with Aromabee as I have experienced all of these with my clients, keep up the treatments as they do so much more good than not even when you are giving a treatment as I'm sure you know it does benefit the therapist too.....
