Freelance massage?

Well I have a question. I have completed 600 hours of massage, bodywork, anatomy and physiology study. I have not, however, passed the NCETMB, so I'm not certified. I don't have money right now to take the test, but I was wondering.

I know this may seem a little bit sleazy, but I'm low on funds. Is it legal to put an ad up on Craigslist in my local area for therapeutic massage? I know I will put that I'm not certified, but have completed school. I just need to know whether it is legal or not.

If you advertise on Craigslist, don't be surprised if people think you're a prostitute. t013

Does your state require licensure?

If yes, it would be illegal and probably make you ineligible to practice legally later on.
If no, you need to find out whether the county, city, and/or municipality you are in requires local licensing.

Your school should have taught you what you need to do to practice legally. If not, you can still contact them for guidance. You can also contact your state's AMTA chapter or your liability insurance provider.

It would help if you bothered to state what city and state you are in.

I have to be certified. Thanks for the advice. I'm not going through with it because I don't want to jeopardize my chance of becoming a massage therapist later. Another question though.

After I took the certification exam, (failed) I was instructed to have to pay within 60 days. I was unable to do that, so what is going to happen as a result?
