First new client tonight!

woo hoo! i have my first private client tonight. i'm very excited but also nervous didnt sleep last night worrying if it would all go well. the client is coming to me which is good but now i'm worried that my treatment room isnt good enough, its in my conservatory (not right spelling) its private and noone can see in and looks lovely just a bit worried from the clients point of veiw...what do you all think?

Hi Maria

I think using your conservatory is an excellent idea, providing it is warm and private enough. The atmosphere is important for treatments.

I had considered using our conservatory, but in the summer it is far too hot and would be more like a sauna and absolute torture for me to work in. (Mind you would have helped in the weight loss department!)

Congrats, the first client is always the most nerve racking. You'll be fine, they'll never know unless you tell them! After a few clients it'll be second nature. Good luck.

Congratulations on your first client! It is a worry when you have your first one - but afterwards you'll be thinking why did I worry. You'll be great.

I wish we had a conservatory to be honest to do my treatments - I use our spare room upstairs which is just lovely (even if I do say so myself) but I think with a conservatory it's that little bit more out of the way isn't it? I suppose though you will have to make sure that it's warm enough in winter and cool enough in the summer.

My first client is still with me three years on!! And it was a guy!! My husband was in when he came the first time but he's just great. He's been practically every four weeks since then - and it could be the same for you! Just take a few deep breaths - it'll be fab x

You must be feeling really excited! And the conservatory sounds lovely.
To relax make a "film" in your mind of how well it will all go, from the clients arrival to departure, and how pleased they are and they want to re-book.
Watch this film over and over as many times as you like.

hi all thanks for replying, i feel better knowing that you all think my room is ok to use! i must admit it does look pretty good, i will def. try the film in my head i think that will calm me down a bit, just hope he turns up now lol!

Congratulations on your first client - my thoughts are with you - Make sure the room is warm enough. Take a bit of Rescue Remedy if you have any that will calm the jitters. Centre yourself - and away you go. I am sure this will be the first of many.

You will be fine! I remember myself saying this last year and it went well and it gets easier too. Now I'm not worried or nervous at all but look forward to helping an individual and spreading my passion on the work I do.

i thought i would give you all an update as you were so kind to reply
well he has just left and it went really well, he loved the massage, he said he would be recommending me which is great but he didnt rebook he said as it was his first massage ever, he wanted to wait and see how he felt afterwards which is fair enough.
i really enjoyed it as well its so different from working in a spa it was great.
My only concern was that i spoke to quickly during the consultation well i thought i did, its something i do when i'm nervous, its something to learn for next time.

Well done on asking him to rebook. Not easy to do when you first start out and very important to do every time. A lot of the time clients don't because they prefer to book on a whim (I know I do).

One tip: I almost always offer to email them stretches or strengthening exercises... http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html is a good source. By doing that it opens an easy line of communication with them. I can follow up via email after a week or so to see how they are feeling after the treatment, ask whether the exercises were clear etc etc.
