First client tomorrow!

So the big day has nearly arrived... my first paying client! I completed my ITEC diploma in Holistic Massage back in July, when I was 7 months pregnant, and now that my boy is over the newborn stage I am keen to get going with my new career. I have practised my massage skills on friends and family, but just hope I can pull the whole consultation/routine thing together ok when it really matters! My client is a colleague so I am rather nervous!

Any tips on how to make sure things go smoothly?

although it is a collegue of yours and may be aware that she is your first customer just imagine that she is you 100th - you have been doing it for ages and are very confident

Thanks hemelgirl! That's good advice. I need to get myself back in the zone so to speak, and hopefully I'll be ok. She is a well-connected person, so I know that if it goes well she will recommend me to others.

Take your time and don't worry too much about the massage routine. Breathe slowly and try to relax as much as possible. Good luck - you'll be fine!

Thanks everybody! Feeling a bit calmer today. She is due here at 10am so I'm going to get myself away from the computer now, dispatch the baby to my friend's house for a couple of hours and then get my treatment room ready. Will let you know how I get on!

I was saying this a couple of years ago but I find that when I am doing the consultation and getting to know them and asking questions it not only relaxes me but also the client. So if I am nervous if its a new client, which is rare these days, I am relaxed by the time the treatment starts.

Just wanted to say thank you very much to all of you for your advice. The treatment went really well, I felt nice and relaxed and the client loved it! She is already talking about getting me to do on-site massage for everybody at work, so I must have done a good job. Phew! That's the first one out of the way!

I'm so glad things went well for you SerenitySue. Thats great news about your client wanting you for more bookings. The first paying client you have is always stressful, but you've done it now, and you'll feel a lot more relaxed with your next and subsequent clients.

Aww, thanks everyone! I am overwhelmed at the amount of support on this forum, I find it all very inspiring and motivating. Hoping to have more talks at work today about offering massages there - I work for a big entertainment & conference venue on the south coast so there should be plenty of opportunity for me to offer either seated chair massage or have a room for one morning a week. Will let you know how things progress!
