First client nerves!!

I got my exam results through today, I got a credit in my ITEC A, P & M course!!

I therefore plucked up the courage to book my first official appointment!! Unfortunately it is with my husband's aunt who is someone that I know, but not really well! I think it would be easier for it to be on a complete stranger, especially when it comes to taking medical histories etc. I sounded so unprofessional when I spoke to her on the phone - I couldn't even think of how much I should charge her! Anyone got any hints for how I can get over the nerves and be sure to create a good impression? I've only got 'til Friday to worry about it, luckily.

Hi 5star[/align][/align]Once you start the treatment, you will be so engrossed in what you are doing that you will forget all about being nervous and just go with the flow.[/align][/align]Just explain that you have not had time to formulated your business plan yet, so have not sorted out your prices, so you are going to charge an introductory fee of say £20.00 and see how you go.[/align][/align]Once you know how much time and effort goes into a treatment, then you have a better idea of what you should be charging, hope that helps.[/align]

Thanks Paul. I know I will be fine once she is up on the table - it's the consultation that I am nervous about, that is what you don't really get a chance to practice while you are studying!!

Hi 5 Star,

Just trust in your training - to get a credit means you're really good. Like Paul says, you'll be so engrossed, you'll forget any nerves. If you forget something during the treatment, don't panic, just be calm and take a moment to remember it. Remember she doesn't knowhow it's meant to be done, and running through the consultation formwith her will guide you and it will impress her andbe enough to give her confidence that you're totally professional.

She may just want to chill out lying there and not talk much, or she may be interested in what you're doing, so you can talk to her about massage or the muscles your working. This will be great for your confidence as it will remind you, unpressurised, about all the things you know really well.

Remember to 'protect' yourself mentally before hand and to take a moment to centre yourself and it will go really well.

The best bit will be afterwardswhen she's left, take a minute to yourself...you'll get an amazing feeling of elation that you've got your first paying client... it's such a buzz

Well, she's been and gone and it wasn't as bad as I was dreading!! (You were all right, of course!) Even though she turned up early so I was caught on the hop, not wearing the "professional" clothes that I had decided to wear, I think it went well. Mind you she did dash off really quickly afterwards so I didn't get much feedback and she left behind the Aftercare sheet and leaflet that I had stayed up til midnight perfecting last night!! Ho hum, all done for another time.

Good news is that she is going to tell her friends!! Looks like the business may be up and running now!
