First 2 hour massage

Hello all. We just started our internship at the school last week. I have my first 2 hour appointment tomorrow afternoon. I'm not too worried about it, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips or anything to help me along. Thanks!

Personally, 1.5 and 2 hrs are usually my favorites! It gives me more time to try different techniques and I don't have to feel rushed with most people. (That being said, I had a NFL football player on my table last week for 1.5 hrs and could definitely have used 2 hrs on him!)

Make sure they have a chance to use the restroom before getting on the table... so it doesn't have to take away from their "table time." I might have been able to include a few more tips... but I got called into work early... so here are a couple threads that might be useful to you!

I'm amazed that they DO 2 hour massages in the school clinic! Ours was geared towards the expectation that we'd go to work in a spa and only do 50 minute hours - it is great that you get this experience now! I love giving 2 hour massages. The only tip I have off the top of my head is to work slowly. Give yourself permission to be relaxed, to listen to the tissue and respond to it. You still have to be aware of the time, but timing is fairly unimportant - if you spend a lot of extra time in one area, you can still be thorough in the others. It is nice!

2 Hour massages are great! I actually enjoy slooowing down the pace, paying more particular attention to more body parts and particularly the areas that might be in need of more attention. Some more stretching and ROM can be incorporated, you can linger on working the back, neck and feet... the possiblities are endless. The time goes by much faster than you might think.

Take a deep breath, remember your body mechanics and have fun!

Thank ya'll for the helpful tips and links. Unfortunately my client canceled, so i was unable to do this massage. Thats ok though, I had one more scheduled that was a rebook from a client I massaged on Wednesday, so I didn't go up there for nothing. I'll admit that I was a little disappointed, I had really prepared myself mentally for this, so I was a bit bummed. It's their loss though, so I'm not going to sweat it too much. Thanks again!

The phrase "50 minute hours"... :irked: Marketing be damned, a 50-minute massage is not an hour massage. The only people claiming otherwise are the folks who dream up such billing schemes. :roll:

The first time I was told I had to do a 50 minute massage I looked at the person like they were crazy. 4 years later I still think it is crazy. I hate having leave certain areas out or rushing to get everything. I am very detailed when I give a massage and I can not do that in 50 minutes.
I love 2 hours!!

I agree, and have never since school given a "50 minute hour" massage.

First 2 hour massage

Well, I finally had my first 2 hour massage appointment this weekend at our student clinic. It went GREAT! It wasn't nearly as strenuous as I thought it would be, and the client loved it. I thought it was going to be difficult extending a 2 hour routine, but it just flowed so naturally that I wish that I would of had more time. When I got my evaluation back, I was told it was the best massage that this particular client has had at the school, and they get regular weekly 2 hour massages. I was flying as high as a kite when I saw that! Deffinitely a tremendous confidence booster. Both of my appointments this weekend will be 2 hour appointments and I'm really looking forward to them. Thanks for the help everyone!
