Ethics?

Hi all!
My question is this: I work on a self employed basis, 2 days a week as needed (ie if there is a booking I go!) at a local Chiropractic clinic. I split the earnings 50/50 with the clinic, as they are getting the bookings, I am using the room/receptionist etc.
However, a couple of clients have asked whether I do home visits. I have answered that I am self employed, so as a rule yes, and left it at that.

I am wondering - since I have not broached this with the clinic - where I would stand if one of the clients then asked to book a home visit. Wouldhan or should, I offer a percentage to the clinic?

Part of me says no way, as it will be my time, my petrol etc etc, but then again, I am taking the client away from the clinic. However, if they really want a home visit, will they just go to another therapist?

Any help would be appreciated!

ok, ethically you should still get them to book through the clinic but renegotiate your fee to say 70/30 ish to cover time and petrol....

Otherwise if the clinic find out they could be well a little annoyed and not rent you a room anymore...

Thanks Tigerbee. That is pretty much what I was thinking; to be honest, I think it would be better just to encourage them to use the facility at the clinic![&:]
I have not long been there, and certainly don't want to mess things up or cause any problems for myself.

I would just like to add another perspective based on some experience with the business aspect of working and consulting with others. If you do not have a contract, that specifically states that you can not treat or are still required to give a percentage for home TXs than they have no recourse. I understand that we all want to do what is right, but also need to realize, we need to make money.

On the other sidem it is their patient and you do have some obligation to them, but recognize that legally you havethe right to do what ever you want, unless you have signed a contract. Although, charting coud become a question!

I guess you also have to ask when the home visit would take place. If it is during hours that the clinic is closed, they may not have a problem. I would do a bit of research and contact other clinics in the area and ask what they do in these circumstances. You can then approach yours and know if you are getting a fair deal.

Are you a member of a professional organisation? they may also have some protocols on this.

Ask them! They might not mind.

You are paying WAY too much to the clinic.

Usually it is 60-40 to the therapist, though I wish it was like that at our Centre, it is much cheaper for the therapist!
