If you're getting a number of these requests then I'd certainly take a hard look at your marketing materials, the marketing of the facility where you practice, or who's sending you referrals. Maybe there's something in the wording that leaves your services open to interpretation?

This has been discussed on the forum before, and while it's not unheard of to come across a client asking for something inappropriate, for the vast majority it seems to be a reasonably rare occurrence. In my experience over the last 5yrs, I've never had a single request. That's not to say that every client has been an angel, but none have ever actually requested anything inappropriate.

That could be your problem. Depending on your area, Craigslist is full of prostitutes advertising in the therapeutic section. Here in Tampa pretty much all legit therapists have abandoned CL.

I just want to piggy back on this really quick - sometimes, no matter what you do, you'll get those requests. I'm a gay male in a big metro area and even though I have NEVER used suggestive and/or unclear marketing methods, I have gotten a high number of illicit requests over the years (far more when I was just starting out; hardly any now almost 10 years later.)

It can be a downer if you LET it be. Don't let yourself become discouraged. Keep doing the best work you know how; stay focused on your marketing and you will build a good clientele that values your work and eventually, those calls will stop.

And yeah...stop using Craigslist

Yes it does! Unfortunately I no longer advertise that I do Esalen. I've heard that Lomi-lomi is becoming "code" for unethical requests too?
