Error in JAVA please help (I'm newbie just started wednesday morning so be patient)?

When i run the project I get the following error:

How can i fix the NullPointerException??? any help??
I used the superclass exception but i wanted to see the error that why it appears the java.lang.null.pointer exception.

if I import: import static java.lang.System.out/in would it help??

ny=scan.next.charAt(0);
or
ny=scan.nextChar();
one more thing do not use so many objects of BufferedReader it waste memory
