Hi all

Well I now have a war wound, caused by trying to remove a lug from our new cat with a brush! So does anyone have any tips for essential oils to help with the inflammation? I'm hoping there's not an infection but the bite site is painful and swollen ((

Tea Tree works for me on small cuts/grazes etc - I apply it undiluted via cotton bud or piece of tissue paper....

I tend not to use tea tree cos I find it too strong. I tend to use ravensara or niaouli,and I was thinking of adding one of those to my bath water in the morning. But I thought I'd ask people for their ideas as well, so thanks for your suggestion.

My general rule of thumb is as follows:

Anti-Viral - Ranvensara (Ravensara aromatica)

Anti-Bacterial - Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium)

To heal skin - Calendula cream

I buy all the above from my supplier Alan Howell www.shechina.co.uk .

I've used both Manuka oil mixed in some Calendula cream to successfully heal a stubborn ulcer.

Keep an eye on it for infection as you don't want the wound to heal trapping any bacteria inside that will cause problems later. I wouldn't pop either oil in the bath as they can irritate mucous membranes and the eyes. It would be better to swab the localised area after a bath or shower, then cover.

I agree that Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) can be a bit harsh and the quality can vary which is why I don't use it.

Thanks for these tips I forgot I'd got some Calendula oil - think I'll get it out and make an oil up.

I did put 6 drops of Ravensara in the bath this morning, with no ill effects though I do take your point about mucous membranes. Things are settling down now, but there is some infection on the site of the bite. I might open it up later to try and drain it (but maybe I'll just make an oil up cos I'm a wuss!).

I think manuka sounds great - some people rave about manuka honey put on wounds, or burns. Gentle and it works.

It all depends on how deep the puncture wounds are, you need to be very careful with cat bites as there are so many bacteria in their mouths. If the swelling is still there and its reddened go to the Docs and make sure your tetanus jab is up to date.

I've done the following blend:

15ml hemp seed oil
5ml calendula
5 drops ravensara
4 drops geranium
4 drops palmarosa

Seems to be working already, and also been giving the site Reiki and used my new lapis lazuli wand on it (which actually got instant results!).
