End of treatment advice please

Hi and happy new year to you!

I was just curious as to what other therapists say to their clients at the end of a treatment. Common sense, but things like, i.e. how was your treatment? Did that meet your expectations? How do you feel? Any others? Any do's and don'ts??

On my course the end always seemed to be wrapped up pretty quickly, offering water, assisting client off table and giving homecare advice where necessary.

Would be interested to know how others go about ending their treatments.

I recently started out doing massage from my local sports centre. Though most who visit the centre and book in for massage are one off's, I have managed to build up a few regular clients which is great! I still feel a lack of confidence from time to time especially with new clients, but hope that this will improve with time.

When we trained at college, the procedure for the end of the treatment was much more comprehensive than I find it is in working life! We were given time to re-enter the treatment area, sit down with the client and have them sign the consultation form and discuss the treatment (ie what they enjoyed, how they feel), give them a drink of water and explain about contra-actions and aftercare advice etc.

Since working in salons, however, I have found that there is usually no time allocated for all this 'mothering' and the client is usually left to get dressed and then either sit and have water on their own or go straight to pay. I usually try and ask them how the massage was for them, but unless you are sitting down together in discussion most people just say 'Wonderful thanks' or give a short answer rather than properly discussing it.

I have been working in a salon since June last year just after i finished college. After my treatments i do the usual things that hello kitty has said. It is difficult because all the things that you would dolike the "mothering "and giving them extra listening time just isn't possible. This is one of the things that frustrates me about working in a salon. Its always difficult too when you have a client who has enjoyed their treatment so much that they don't want to get off the couch too quickly and you have another client waiting. Any tips for this one?
