I am embarking upon giving massage to elderly clients within a residential home. As none of the residents are responsible for their own money, consent from the relatives has been obtained for the treatment. Therefore the home will pay me direct.
The manager of the residential home has also written to each of the residents doctors asking for consent for me to perform treatment. (as with a lot of elderly people, some of them have quite a few ailments). Replies from doctors have not been very forthcoming, so I am concerned about performing the treatment without this.
I have compiled a form similar to my usual consultation form, which I intend to complete with the residents carer, who know all about the residents medical history, but the carers do not have specific medical qualifications. This form is purely intended for me to get as much info as possible about each resident, to enable me to make an informed decision about whether I treat or not.
Is there anyone else who works in this field who could offer advise? I believe this would be a very good treatment for the elderly, but am beginning to feel that there are too many barriers in my way. I am very concerned about treating without doctors consent, but do not want this to be the reason that this venture fails, as most of the residents are suitable for a non invasive hand, shoulder, foot massage.
Any advise would be appreciated!
