I've had one of those mornings where somebody turns up for a back massage and I have had to turn her away!! It just makes you feel awful doesn't it.

She has a history of DVT and whilst I know that it is probably fine to give her a back massage I have still decided to err on the side of caution and decline the treatment until I get a letter from hre GP. I haven't often had to do this I am glad to say but it makes you feel really rubbish doesn't it?

I explained that I wouldn't be able to do any reflexology or probably not a full body but that the back massage should be fine. I just needed to check.

Doesn't it make you feel rubbish??

She has had other massages though and she said that none of them even discussed it with her. I find that amazing.

You did the right thing, and that should make you feel good. Its easy to be swayed by an eager client. It is one of those situations as well where the doctor may not be keen to give a letter. However as a general rule if the doctor gives an ok to fly you could take that as an ok for massage too. Be careful if she is on medication for the condition too.

Its difficult not to share the clients disappointment but well done on sticking to your guns

The AOR states that although current DVT is a contradiction, if stabilised it can aid circulation and reflexology (and probably massage) can be done with caution.....

Therefore if it is in the past you can do reflexology, however if you are not comfortable with it then yes you should seek medical opinion first.
