Does wringing have same effect as picking up - explain wringing technique please ?

Happy Easter.

Just doing swedish massage routine & have been told to do picking up & wringing can anyone help with explaining if they have the same effect also could someone explain the basic technique for wringing, as I'm getting it all round my neck !!

Picking up and wringing have the same effects - part of Pettrisage (meaning to knead). So basicaly you are picking up the tissues in your hand, squeezing and releasing quickly and moving from side to size across the muscle (eg leg). You should be using the entire hand, pads of your fingers and the thumb is used to squeeze. Wringing would be like wringing out wet clothes but obviously working on the skin, so use the entire palm and thumbs to grab. Its hard to explain. Did yourtutor not demonstrate the technique to you?

The effects of both is to release toxins and waste products, muscles are softened and stretched, lymphatic circulation is improved as lympth is squeezed out of the spaces, skin condition is improved.

Pemba has the right answer re effect but also consider the muscles you are massaging. Some techniques feel better than others. So wringing over a larger area, picking up over individual muscles may do the trick.

Wringing is generally used onthe outerlarger fleshy area like the love handles, gastrocnemiusand thighs and feels a lot softer than pick ups. Pick up are more invigorating but on a smaller area but still giving the same pressure as you would for wringing, giving the muscle a better workout iyswim??

Thanks so much everyone. My tutor didn't explain the effects, I am in process of changing my course to another school as the course is so unprofessionally run, lots of ciggy breaks for her and her turning up late when course due to start at 9 she turns up at 9.20 then has a coffee and we start for to practice half way through morning !
