Does anyone have their own massage therapy?

Hi everybody,

Does anyone here have created their own massage therapy? I know some people who do a therapy that they developed themselves and I always hear great idea's that they made to work and got good feedback on. Is there anything you did like creating your own therapy and whats it called & what does it contain (no need to go into detail)?

I agree with Macalla. I have come up with new techniques, better ways to do old techniques, ect. Just MY way of doing a massage. Nothing I would ever market as such. But I do share what I have learned and developed with other therapists.

Like a lot of other therapists that have been in practice for a while, I find that I do things in my own way, my own time, presentation, etc. When I have high school students job shadowing me so they can get a picture of what it is like to be a massage therapist [for a day], I try to remember to tell them that what they are looking at is NOT what they will be taught in school. That what I do is just that, what I do, no one else. I got to laughing at myself recently when working with a job shadowing student. She asked me what technique I was using and there was no name I could give it. My only reply was "well, in school it started out being cross-fiber friction, but, now, it is something entirely different in intent and in application." After she left, I went back to the texts we used in school.............. LOL it simply amazed me just how fabulously I have expanded the basics I was taught in school, and just how perfected to who I am, and what I offer each client individually my massage techniques have become.

I personally feel that there are many therapists that have been gifted from birth with an ability to heal and it is specific to that person and their hands. I've developed the Soukai Method and broken it down into three layers. It, like Macalla's Massage, is a living, breathing art form, with the intent to heal. I started writing a book on it, but I have to admit, that I would really love to teach it. It is too beneficial to keep to myself, but at the same time, it is too indepth to just toss away ideas. Most people just simply would not understand the purpose of half of the things that I do. I realized this while working on one of my teachers, she was completely surprised at all of the techniques I was using a year after school and not taking any extra classes on a "basic" massage education.

Look for The Soukai Method in a school near you or at your favorite book store in a year or so
