do I need insurance for free treatment??

Hi!

I'm planning to do a facial massage course, don't know which one yet.

I will not be charging for them - I just want to use it as a 'gift' to give to my family and friends should they want one.

Do I still need insurance???

Hi there.
Personally, I would say things are safer with insurance. However if you are only treating your friends and family it should be okay. Really it depends on how you feel and what exactly you are doing to them! Your course tutor should be able to advise you when you start the course.

Once you are qualified in any form of therapy you need insurance to practice, the the law deems trained therapists as beingresponsible for applying their therapies, sothey need professional indemnityinsurance.

If you are not formally trained then it is a different scenario

Maybe you should post on a legal forum, to see if you could include a waiver on a consultation card, saying they waive all rights to any legal claims against you as the treatment is complimentary?

I'm not sure how that would stand legally though, which is why I would advise further research into it.

There is no legal requirement to have insurance. Obviously therapists who charge for their services should have this and there are many places that won't allow you to practise without it.

However, if you are just providing these treatments for friends and family, without charge, then you don't need insurance. There are lots of introductory courses, ie for massage and reflexology which allow you to practise on friends and family, but not take payment and you don't need insurance to do this.

Good one, don't ever take it for granted that friends or family regardless of whether they paid or it was a freeby, would not take action if something happened or occured as you say Queenmg . As the saying goes S*** Happens so have the loo roll in place . lyn
