Hi! I'm an LMT and have just started working in October. I have found that it is very common for many of my clients to have a knot medial to the inferior scapula and at the tip of Serratus Posterior. Mainly, it's on the client's left side, and more often than not, on big-breasted women, though I do have one client who is very small and is an RN...hers is the worst I've seen. When I first started massaging it, it was red, and raised in a perfect circle about the size of a quarter, very hard, like scar tissue. It has since separated and is hard in places within the circle rather than being one hard lump. I only see one other client who has it almost as bad as her, and as for the rest of them, you can feel it forming, and it is very tender to touch.
Is this common? Am I waking up a dormant trigger point by rubbing there? It just confuses me that it's so common and has me second guessing myself. And if it's not something I'm doing wrong...other than heat and deep tissue...how do I get it to break up completely?
Thanks...
Grace
