Cleaning out used bottles

I'm a 'home enthusiast' rather than a trained aromatherapist, and not been into this for long, but I'm already finding that the turnover of used bottles (just ones I've been using for myself, that is!) is getting to be quite large. How do people clean out used bottles, or do people just throw them away, as I realise that leftover traces of oils will affect anything subsequently put into the bottle, if it's not cleaned properly?

You could try putting a drop of washing up liquid into the empty bottle, and then adding some very hot water - give it a bit of a shuggle, the rinse - and repeat this a few times until you think it is free of the original contents - leave upside down to drain and dry - don't forget to clean the lid too.

I tried searching on this forum first, as I suspected this theme had come up before, but all the previous replies suggested putting the bottles in the dishwasher, but I haven't got one

On our course she suggested putting them in a pan with a drop of washing up liquid and water and boiling them up. It works but marks the bottles after a while. I am lucky to be able to use the dishwasher. Love Melanie x

Thanks Melanie. In what way does it mark the bottles? Do you mean it leaves a residue eventually?

just a thought - you could use Milton fluids to clean out your bottles - Baby formula feed has a greasy residue left behind so you could soak the bottles in a bucket of milton fluid and of course this wont leave any effecting residue.
