cleaning essential/aromatherapy oils of metal?

I had a aromatherapy kit last yr with a metal stiring stick and pot and a plastic pot. I left the oils in there and they've gone all sticky and horrile. Washing up liquid did not work nor did soaking them in hot water.
How do you get oils of things? I'd love to use them again but its impossible to clean them
Yeah the pot isn't plastic I'm an idiot.
