Well this weekend I did the NO HANDS Chair Massage Course ... wow! Its absolutely fantastic, love it. And of course means my Chair and I can get out there in the world as a true Ambassador of Touch.

I was wondering if anyone else is a Chair (either Muscle or Meridian based) Therapist, how do you find it and where do you take your chair?

I did the No Hands Chair Massage course as I have done the No Hands Foundation, the course, along with all their two day courses was £250.

Our trainer was Anne Parry who also trains with the Academy of On-Site Massage. This course teaches muscle based massage whereas the AOSM teach Meridian based massage. It really is amazing how much you can perform in just a ten / fifteen minute treatment.

I would really encourage anyone interested in Chair Massage to do it, it requires a good investment - the training and chair (which can cost upto £500) but it opens up so many new clients and possibilities!

For a cost comparison, the Academy six day course costs £475 (I think inc VAT) and the No Hands foundation and Chair costs £585 (inc VAT). With the No Hands course you will also learn postures and techiques to help reduce injury from table massage too so for the extra £100 you get some help with your table based treatments too.

I have the Earthlite Avilla II Chair. I was on a holiday to San Francisco so bought one online and had it shipped to my hotel, it worked out just over half the price of buying it here.

If looking for a chair I would suggest either the Avilla II or Oakworks Portal Pro chair, both of which are very good. They each have their benefits and advantages, i would recommend you try out any chair you are thinking about getting. You want one that is easily adjustable and portable.

Allie, I am a huge fan and advocate of the No Hands massage, it really does transform how you massage - more powerful for clients and zero strain to you!

Hey Foz, great way to get a great chair! (how much was your excess baggage on the plane, or were you allowed it as hand luggage?) - who do you deal with if it goes wrong? Looking to replace my Portal Pro with something better and am doing my homework!

Happy to see that you are a huge fan of no hands (the picture on your website unfortunately shows a hand being used) - had a look at that myself and found it all too dramatic and "spiritual" - much prefer a more nuts 'n' bolts approach (horses for courses eh?).

Heard on the grapevine that the Chair course is co-copyrighted with another company - is that right?

I am a chair therapist, trained with the Academy and have done the No Hands chair course through the Academy as well. I came to the therapy by being a client (when I was still trapped in an office job) and love it!

I currently take my chair into several different Companies, but have heard of chairs in shopping malls, airports, seafronts and other exotic places.

Getting the chair home wasn't a problem at all. I was flying Virgin Atlantic and checked on the website before going the baggage allowance and maximum item size. I e-mailed Eartlite directly to get the weight and measurements and there wasn't any problems - fortunately i usually travel quite lightly.

Which Portal Pro do you have? The Portal Pro 3 is quite nice, in a perfect world I would love to see a chair that takes the best of the Avilla II and Portal Pro 3 and put them together - then you really would have the best chair in the world.

The performances and talks by Gerry have given a few people that impression, and yes it can be quite spiritual and dramatic. But don't let you put that off the power and versitility of it. If there is a No Hands practitioner in your area I'd suggest next time you have a massage try a No Hands one.

The No Hands Chair Course is copyrighted by the No Hands Company. The other major course is that provided by the Academy of On-Site Massage in the UK, i'm not sure on the Copyright of their work. Are you thinking of TouchPro? They are the original Chair Massage company and have licensed Stressbusters in the UK to provide training over here. They also have an Annual Recertification requirement for their practitioners which I have to admit is something that would deter me from training with them, but that is a personal preference.

Just to add - I trained with the Academy and have a Portal Pro 3 which I find excellent. Clients absolutely LOVE the massages. I don't do much corporate work, more on private clients. AND I have massaged on the seafront at Lowestoft where I have my practice - I had a stand for three years at the Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival promoting my practice. I have massaged the local Mayor, policemen in uniform, paratroopers and helicopter pilots! I also had a stand at The Gorleston Festival which is close to Great Yarmouth - both stands had spectacular views and it is lovely working under the shade of a gazebo on a lovely summers day looking out at sea with a cooling breeze. Two years ago at Lowestoft I was directly in front of the Jaguar Jump Jet that fell into the sea which rather dampened the day (fortunately the pilot was not seriously hurt). Of course, when you are stuck in a gazebo and it is pelting down with rain, nobody wants to stop to see what you are doing and are miserable anyway its not quite so much fun! Always creates a stir, though.
Have been thinking about No Hands Massage - glad to hear that The Academy do a version...maybe next year.......
