Has anyone ever heard of the LMT Success Group?  They mailed me some literature containing a list of classes they offer.  Some even are offered on a cruise!  What caught my eye is that they have a class that teaches you how to book conventions for chair massage.  They have 3 coming up in different cities ranging in price from $145-$175.  They claim you will work while you learn at one of these coventions and any money you make from performing chair massage is yours.  They gaurantee that you will work at least 12 hours during these 2-3 day conventions.What do you think?

Chair Massage

Dear God, I hope you told them NO and ran screaming...I have a nice little clientele for Chair Massage...I do parties, and have several businesses that I visit monthly. The standard rate around here ranges from $1.00-$1.50 per minute. I do my own scheduling, so that I have time for rest, water, etc. The most I have ever worked in one day was six hours. Given the amount of money I made (you will get a few tips...maybe $10 an hour), even that was not worth the physical damage I did to myself.Chair massage is quite brutal on the therapist. It's very difficult to maintain good mechanics. You end up doing mostly compression and deep tissue neck work, which leaves your thumbs SCREAMING after four hours or so. The wrists start to ache as well. The day after, you can expect sore forearms.If you DO decide to offer chair massage, make sure you take ten minuts or so an hour for yourself, stretch your own wrists and fingers frequently, and make sure that you have the next day free to take care of yourself.Good Luck!

Although this is an old topic, I have to respectfully disagree.I've been doing A LOT of chair massage regularly over the past year and a half and I have no problem with bad body mechanics, etc.  Most of the time I work 4 hours straight through, sometimes I might have a 15 minute break in there somewhere.  Chair massage is just like table massage; most techniques you do on the table can be done in the chair, and good body mechanics must be learned.  Yes, the body mechanics are different, but good body mechanics are possible.  To answer the original question, I have taken one workshop from LMT Success Group.  It was a marketing workshop and was WONDERFUL!  I've been considering taking the "Make Money with Chair Massage" workshop as it focuses solely on marketing chair.  I'm not sure if I'd really want to do the convention workshop tho, even tho it does sound fun!Pete

Robert,  I have taken a few classes from LMT Success Group.  I really enjoyed them.  The cruise is one that I am thinking of taking.  You only have class on the days your are "at sea" and the rest of the time is yours.  I also agree with Pete, chair massage is a great as long as you do what works for you.  Learn what body mechanics work for you and you should be fine.
