I've been working in chad. Central Africa for the past 2 weeks. I'll be back late January. It is 32 to 40 c in the day. I haven't been about at home for a bit. No girls here I am in a compound. I read these as often as I can . This is my only connection with the outside world other than my brothers

China has extensive investments in infrastructure projects in Chad, electricity, water and hospitals among them. The diaspora is out there. If you can find a Chinese restaurant or two, maybe that is the entry point for some new friendships. WeChat too. Many women from Chongqing have headed to African countries as support staff to various projects, including running restaurants and canteens for all the workers.

I am contracted as a safety consultant. The company is building a new mine , not in Chad but I have 800 operators to train to operate heavy equipment. Once I am done then I will be building safety management programs and codes of practice . The operators are all from Chad, and a few are from Ecuador. French is spoken in Chad and being fluent in French and Spanish I was aggressively sought out. I have worked overseas a lot as a consultant so this is something I have had exposure to. I have been semi retired for a few years but the renumeration in American dollars was too good to pass up. My business will still be here when I get back , I have nothing to loose and a lot to gain. The weather sucks ass. I have had heat exhaustion so many times that I am very susceptible now. I am not allowed to drink here so I am missing my Irish Whiskey.

Not Chad but worked in Uganda this past year, I wasn't in a compound and can confirm that working ladies are abundant in the cities. With a national HIV rate of >5%, the rate among working ladies is probably >50%. I personally wouldn't indulge in Africa even when it is abundant and cheap; one equipment failure and you are screwed for life.
