Caterpillar movement

Can anyone please advise me what the answer would be to the following question.
Why is the caterpillar movement of special value in treating points on the feet?

Can find lots of answers on how to do it, but struggling to find the special value.

Isn't this to do with keeping in contact with the foot - by doing this you are able to maintain a constant pressure accross the sole.
This means that :

a) you are able to feel everything
b) by feeling everything you are also able to feel differences in texture / resistance etc.
c) the client can then detect for themselves what is a tender area from what is not - the pressure is constant

Maybe a different answer from Janey. I'm not saying she is wrong, and I'm not sure I have the difinitive answer either - just what springs to mind...

The caterpillar movement is the one used when doing a diagnostic - therefore it is the one that shows up the out of balance areas. Without it, we would not discover what is wrong with our clients and therefore would not be able to do a treatment plan.

Hi Victoria. I've just qualified with the British School of Reflexology, and we used TINY caterpillar movements. They are more precise than other techniques I have seen and you can make the movements smaller and more controlled. Also, you keep good contact with the feet.

Hi Victoria, what sprung to my mind when I read your post is that you are reading too much into this. I don't know if you are doing ITEC? They always made us feel like the answer needed to be much more than it was and our tutor always told us 'just answer the bloomin question, you know the answer!'[>:] They really are just asking you to explain and if you think about it you probably already know it, just put it down in your own words.

I have noticed that quite a few therapists do these big skippy movements over the feet, not how I was taught at all, we do tiny little 'nibbles' and I think that this is the correct movement?

good point, candie. i used to find the questions really *hard* when in fact, they werent. most of the questions are really asking you to state the obvious. *say what you see*, to say a famous quote <g>.

i think its mostly to remain in contact and make sure all bits are covered. that way, you will notice changes and differences.

yes, and remember, there isn't always just ONE answer, as pointed out above. This is particularly true in the aromatherapy exam as different oils can do different things - how they ever mark them is beyond me![&:]
