Can someone explain what a Fibrostic Nodule is?

Hi,

Have just realised I don't actually know what one is, thought it was an extreme build up of latic acid but don't believe it is now. What does one feel like and how do you know when you've found one? I thought it was like a popping pea but was told that this is actually latic acid.

Hi Curious, a fibrotic nodule is usually a small area of tense contracted muscle fibres, most people call them knots.

The 'popping' ones can be small pockets of trapped fluid, and there are also fatty nodules, that when pressed can disperse, sometimes with a kind of popping sensation.

Thanks for your reply. It does kind of helps. The popping does as I can find it and treat it where it goes away but I'm still not sure on what a what a knot feels like, I think that's because I've been confusing them for a few weeks now. What does a knot feel like?, is it just an area of tension? If someone just has an area of pain, say the right shoulder would that be fibrostic nodules? in that the muscle has contracted around that area?

I had my mum in the other day and the whole top of her back felt really stiff, kind of like concrete, but it was the whole of her back and not just an area. She does suffer though from athritis & sciatica. I did feel what felt like a really hard golf ball right at the base of her spine which I've not experienced before, which she said would be the arthritis. Is this normal in arthritis/sciatica?
