Is anyone blind or has anyone had experience working with a blind classmate?
I graduated from the program and starting in a few weeks I will be taking notes for a first year massage student who is blind. This is a first for the program, and I am curious to see how the curriculmn will adapt.
For instance, for a quiz during our kinesiology unit, the teacher got up on the desk and made motions which we would identify. So much of the learning is visual, especially demonstrations... I have the feeling that my position will be a lot more involved than simply note taking. Which reminds me, how do you deal with SOAP notes and charting?
Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt that the visually impaired make great therapists, I am just trying to think ahead as to what challenges we might face in a classroom environment.
Any advice, comments, ancedotes?
Thanks!
