best text books for course.

Request to reflexologist amongst you.

I gained diplomas in various holistic therapies but circumstances led me to taking a year out. I have signed for Reflexology today and cannot wait to start the new term. When I did the Aromatherapy I accumulated 33 aroma books!!
I intend to be more discriminating this time and hope you can offer suggestions for the best book/s to buy>

Ive just finished doing a VTCT diploma in Reflexology....i didnt buy any books just ordered loads from the local library...It sounds like your abit of a book worm......which Course have you signed up for?

Morning Hallos,
Did you manage to get through all your course with just the library books. I borrowed one of the main books but someone else put themselves on the wait list so i had to return it. I think that happens with the popular books. I am a bit of a book fiend, some of them are very old and I did pick them up very cheaply. I have bit the bullet though and managed to just clear 20 mixed interest books to the charity shop. I am going to be on the 1st year Reflex Diploma VTCT.

I have just finished a degree in Reflexology and our core textbook was:

Beryl Crane : Reflexology, The definitive practitioners manual

It is a good book (a little hard to read possibly), but goes through everything you need to know, including the acupoints on the feet and the reflexes to treat for specific conditions.

Other books about traditional Reflexology that were on our reading list are:

Ann Lett : Reflex Zone Therapy for Health Professionals

(very in depth and medically orientated, but v good!)

Hanne Marquardt : Reflex zone therapy

(a nice small book that clearly and simply lays out the the theory and practice of Reflexology)

Inge Dougans :Reflexology, the complete illustrated guide

Inge Dougans has also written books that focus more on using the meridians of Chinese medicine. I love the book:

Inge Dougans : The 5 elements and their 12 meridians: a unique approach

Other books in this vein are:

Moss Arnold : Chi Reflexology

John Cross: Acupressure and Reflex therapy

So, I hope I've given you some options. My personal favourites in the list above are the more traditional and also the 5 element Inge Dougans books I've mentioned.

Yes i did manage to get through all the course with just borrowing books, however i did have a great tutor who taught us so much more than required for the course...I am going onto to do the VTCT advance course(which follows on from the diploma)

Im sure you will find some good books along the way but try not to go out buying loads to start with as many foot maps are slighty different and can be confusing to start with.

Wow!! uve done a degree in Reflexology....You must be very passionate about Reflexology...How long did it take to do the course?

It was a BSc so took 3 years which is a long time but I'm glad I did it as it gives a good grounding in aspects of Comp therapies like scientific research thats being done, professional issues, anatomy and physiology etc. It also challenged me to look very deeply into the origins and background behind Reflexology. Eg. My last essay was entitled 'Evaluating zone and meridian based practice in Reflexology', which meant I had to look critically at both theories and relate them to Reflexology.

The only problem now is getting clients...

Thanks for your replies, hopefully the bookworm/hunter/gatherer in me has had her day. I will choose for quality, not quantity this time round !!
I think I will take some of these titles to the library and see what I can find.

Gosh it sounds like hard work, but well worth it in the end....Im not in a position to start working for myself just yet so im going onto do a Post Grad holistic Course starting in sept full time....
Im sure theres lots of tips on how to get clients of this site...i know one of the ladys did a open day/event at her local fire station...
I know its hard to start off but just keep focused and im sure things will fall into place.

So do you think Reflexology works because pressure is applied on around the meridans? Or just a combination of things?
