Audio recording of treatments

Anyone ever come across this?

It would be to cover both you and the client against claims of miscondict etc.

Obviously video would be a no no but ive heard of doctors etc having audio recording equipment in their treatment rooms.

I think I would seriouly consider it. being a male therapist I somtimes get worried that someday day I migth get a nutjob in!

At the very least you would be required to notify ALL that they were being recorded. Even then there may be other data protections concerns

I agree with alrl. I have never heard of any therapist using audio recording. I think that the best way of protecting against the possibility of an unstable client is to adopt a very cautious advertising policy (as we've discussed on other threads such as 'attracting new clients' and 'mobile massage')

data protection and consent goes without saying. soemone would hardly record treatments without the client giving consent.

Im not saying im going to do it, im just saying i have heard of doctors doing it. I really believe this is the way forward.

a friend of mine has just found out that her landlord has 'bugged' all the therapy rooms, some of which are used for counselling and hypnotherapy. She alerted the police and the council and they have told her that there is nothing they can do about it, although it is against human rights, so she would have to employ a human rights lawyer!

I do know of therapists who use tape recorders to use when they have clients of the opposite sex, but they do inform their clients first.

The only time I've come across it anecdotally was a consultant who used to tape his consultations when he was giving his findings - then he would hand the tape over to the patient so they could listen to it again - the tapes used to end up in the bin outside from what I gather.

I can't see the benefit really as a therapist because the tape could still be tampered with. Bugging the rooms I'm not happy with!!
