Aroma for Depression?

Hi,

My mom has clinical depression and i was wondering if there was a aroma that would help her feel a bit better? Can some one help me pls?

Hi Louise,

You could put some bergamot oil (usually about 6-8 drops) in an oil burner if you have one. Any of the citrus oils are uplifting. Grapefruit, mandarin, orange, lemon and they are not too expensive. Is your mum tired, or lethargic or is she more restless or irritable? To get the right oils for your mum she should see an aromatherapist who could then treat her following taking a case history.

Hi there,

I suffer from clinical depression and paranoid schizophrenia and find that 'pettigrain' really helps my mood - frankinscence is also said to be very healing but everyone's different. I'd get some good herbal advice from a an established retailer, maybe just let your Mom investigate what scents seem to lift her.

Thanks for the info guys.. My mom actually gets really upset these days..I mean at times she is in a good fine mood and suddenly a small things makes her very angry.. I dont how how to deal with this situation

Everyone is different, but when I had reactive depression some time ago the oils that really helped me were: in water in a burner: about 8 drops of lavendar, 2 drops of geranium, 2 drops of lemon, 2 drops of tea tree and occasionally I would add a drop of Rosemary. Use whatever oils that feel right for her at the time.
