Ok...I tried. But there is a big ol' bump in the way and that makes it so I can hardly breathe and it's just really annoying. I'm so afraid of tearing though! And I tried to get my fiance to do it, but I just get annoyed with him too. He doesn't really do it right, and then he gets distracted ( if you know what I mean ) and nothing really gets done.

So ... ? Can anyone ease my mind on this one?

I've never done the massage either, and I never had a "real" tear with any of mine. With my second, I did have a teeny, tiny tear, so small that it didn't even need a stitch and I wouldn't have even known it was there if my midwife hadn't told me --- BUT I have to mention that my baby was posterior (face up instead of face down), so it's just a wonder I didn't end up with a huge tear or an episiotomy. Just one miniscule tear that I never even felt. Nothing at all with the other three. If you can't do the massage, don't sweat it. Your body is designed to stretch, so you probably won't have any problem. Just listen to your doctor or midwife when it comes to pushing and not pushing, and all should be fine. Good luck!
