Anyone been on a Trigger Point Workshop?

Evening everyone,

I've been glued to a book about trigger points, and wondered whether anyone has been on/can recommend a short course on trigger points.

I know you can probably work them out, but it's great to get hands on practice, and my family normally disappear when I ask for volunteers.

Just ask somebody who really needs the help to get some practice on, that's what I did and I had no shortage of volunteers!

Dear TopCat,

I am a borywork tutor and teach at City & Islington College London.

If you found some fellow therapist who wanted to attend a workshop on Trigger Points and Treatment Approaches then I would be happy to put one together for you.

It would be best to take a day (5 hours). I have the space at my clinic to cater for 6-8 and three couches. I would give you theory and techniques to practice.


I trained with Leon Chaitow, Mel Cash and others in these techniques and would be happy to pass on some of that learning to you.

I would require all participants to carry professional insurance.

Please let me know if you want to proceed. If you do not have anyone else in mind then I can do a workshop for you alone (if you bring a model for you to work on) but it would be more cost effective if you could find others to accompany you.

Dear Iceni,


TP's are different to acupressure points as they arise in stressed or fibrotic tissues. A trigger point is a discrete localised tender point which refers or radiates pain. There are certain types of TP's depending on whether the pain is familiar or not etc..

The theory of TP's comes from Travell & Simons' work on Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction and although their distribution often follows patterns and can be mapped they may vary in time and person to person.

Acupressure points as used in a variety of different bodywork modalities as I am sure you are aware from Tibetan medicine, Shiatsu, Thai Yoga Etc...
These may be painful but are not TP's.

My rate would depend upon the level and number of people.

If you were able to arrange for 6 of you to attend then I would charge £300 per day.

That is £50 per person from 10 - 4 pm. I would offer a two day workshop for this subject. I would be happy to discuss details over the phone.

It depends if you want one to one tuition in which case it would be good to bring a model. If not then if there is a small group of you you can work on each other.

I suggest you find at least 4 of you so that the cost comes down but if you are happy to attend with fewer then we can make things work on terms of models and numbers. Don't worry about that.

If you have some people in mind who are interested then send me an email and we can discuss dates.

I work full time but I could take leave during the week so long as I have notice of the dates.

I don't have a model in mind although I can probably find one, working in pairs may be an idea, sometimes it actually helps to feel what the moves are like on your body as well as practicing doing them.

Anyway I'm in if we can get enough people.

Hi All,

I can do Fri/Sat's or Sat/Sun's for the next 4 weeks. After that my weekends are full again for the next few months.

I am a definite attendee, how about proposing a few dates and see who is available?

3/4th April
10th/11th April
17/18th April

If people can only do Fri/Sat's I'm ok with that as well.

As an option, would people prefer to do it one 2 day stint, or two consecutive weeks?

Hi Everyone,

I could do 3-4 April or 17-18, not Easter weekend though.

Is there anywhere on healthy pages we could advertise to see if we can get anybody else interested? If there are only 2 of us the price might be a bit steep.

Two days on different weekends would work quite well I think, it would give us time to absorb the material and maybe practice. Also if you are working full time doing a course over the whole weekend is going to be rather heavy going.

Is there anyone else who's keen?

I have placed an add in my events section of healthy pages members area so perhaps we will get some replies.

I will have a word with some of my students at college and ask them if they are interested in attending.

I suggest the 3rd and 4th of April. A weekend workshop would be best 4 me as I teach all day Fridays and I feel we should do consecutive days unless you really want to split them.

My birthday is the 19th so cant do that weekend or Easter so that leaves the 3rd and 4th. What do you think to putting one on that weekend.
