Anybody worked on cruise ships?

Hi

I'm thinking of doing a stint. I've a sport/remedial massage qual from LSSM. If anyone has done it, how did it go and what was it like? Boring or exciting? And if you have any employer details, that would be great.

Hi I haven't but can help.

My sister worked on American/Caribbean cruise ships for some time and one of our therapists applied for a job recently.

The up-side:

You get to see the World. You get good tips. You meet new people etc etc.

The Down-side:

You work like a dog. You have to pay to get on. You have to pay for: your uniform, your jabs and medical, you have to pay a fee so you don't jump ship (think it is £500) which is returnable. You earn a pittance, about £50 a week. You have to do training courses in your spare time. You work 14 hour days and get half a day off a week.

I think to get on you have to stump up about £1500, some of which is returnable. I think if you are thrifty then you can put a bit away for when you get off.

And not speaking from experience, but just as an observation, great if you want to treat lots of different clients, but no opportunity for continued treatments, progression and seeing long term improvements in your clients.
