I had my first acupuncture appointment last week for stress reduction. I really just wanted to know what it felt like AND it worked! It wasn't painful at all. The first needle hurt a little but after that I didn't feel any of them, and he even stuck me right between the eyes and I didn't feel a thing. He did say that there are different types of needles and the more traditional ones are bigger therefore more painful but the disposable ones are the ones he uses.
So he stuck me with 2 in each leg, 1 in each arm, 2 on each side of my neck, 1 between the eyes and 1 more on the forehead. He left for about 15 minutes to let me rest and I drifted to sleep. At first it felt a little weird because I felt my body get really heavy almost like someone turned the pressure up in the room so my body was being pushed into the table. But the weird part is that I think my body was so relaxed that I swear I could feel my blood moving through my veins and the commotion of my organs at work.
I wanted to try it out because I plan to use acupuncture for pain management of labor and delivery and have no doubts about it's effectiveness. I realize it probably doesn't compare to an epidural but if I wanted an epidural I would get one.
Hope this helps.
