after care advice

Hi guys,
Can anyone help me. I thought (doing case studies) that it was a 'generic' aftercare advice sheet you gave to your clientsi.e. drink plenty of water, rest, avoid alcohol caffine etc ?????? But when i took some of my unfinished case studies to show my tutor (hoping i was heading in the right direction) she told me that i should be giving aftercare advice on whether it is congestive or inflammatory and now i'm totally confused because i'm not sure what she means. Please please please help, as my case studies are going great apart from the aftercare advice!!!!!

I too find it hard to know exactly what we are meant to include in our case studies etc! I have designed and printed a generic aftercare advice, but then I also give each client some more specific advice tailored to them and write this on my case study notes, have yet to have it checked by tutor so may find this isn't correct, but hoping it will cover all bases! Will let you know what she says if it helps?!

Hi Sandie

I always use "generic" aftercare advice sheets but then supplement that with top-up info relevant to that particular client, if needed.

We have to try to give a new piece of advice after every treatment with our case studies. I think we all start off with the usual 'drink lots of water' but then we have to suggest other things.

It makes us think holistically and also means we have to research the issue more. For example, one of my case studies suffers from SAD so I've suggested using orange essential oil which is uplifting or taking agnus castus for her hormones.

Another case study had endometriosis and I'd just read that pilates had been found to ease stomach cramping in people who suffered from endo so I suggested it to my client.

Of course, unless we are qualified in a therapy, we should be careful about what we recommend so I always say "I've heard/read such and such is good, but a nutrionist/aromatherapist/health food shop etc etc can advise you in greater detail". It's worth having a very basic understanding of other therapies.

The in-store magazine from Holland & Barrett is a fabulous source of hints and tips that you can use as aftercare advice.

Spot on sarah7 it sounds like you know you stuff. Im also doing client studies and pointed out to my client that i read in a book aboutepson salts in the bathmight help with her sore elbows.As she is undergoing tests for osteo/ and arthritis. Also she suffers from raynards so i will be looking up stuff about that aswell. The internet ismy best friend.
Itreally isntthat hard once you get stuck in.
With regards to sandie query perhaps you couldshow the client to self help/heal with hand reflexology?

Hi

Hallos - for Raynauds syndrome you could suggest that the client tries a manicure including a hot paraffin wax treatment. This will stimulate and be very beneficial.

I don't know really know what she means either so I'd need to ask!
