Advise with regards should i treat or not

A bit of advise please, i trained as a beauty therapist many years ago now and havent worked for a long time in massage so very rusty on contri indications in massage, just recently trained as a reflexologist.
I have insuranse for both beauty and reflex.

A friend of family has asked me to give her a back massage she is diabetic and also just had a operation a couple of weeks ago investigations in the reproductive area. this has left her with back pain and she is desperate for a massage,i believe the pain is caused from being filled with air in the operation, i have agreed to do it but now doubting that i should in case i case her more pain or damage.
she has a apointment at hospital this week so i have asked her to check with them 1st although i doubt they will be willing to say yes or no.
will i be ok if she signs a disclaimer consent form for insurance purposes.

It sounds like she had a laparoscopy, which means a couple of incisions are made in the abdominal wall. If that is the case, I would be very, very wary indeed of massaging until the incisions are fully healed. Bear in mind that the abdominal wall has been cut right the way through, and there will be internal stitches, so just because the skin seems to have healed doesn't mean the muscle will have.

This ia an awkward one without knowing wether she had actual surgery with incisions that might be painful or harmful if massaged to soon or a scope or scan or any other number of investigations they may have done..
If your concerned why not offer a reflexology session as an alternative this wouldnt cause any stretching or direct pressure on her tummy and would be a lovely relaxing and gentle treatment ?? just an idea, xx

Hi thank you for your response's i have spoken to her on the phone and explained that it may not be a good idea so soon but she is happy to go ahead she has said she will ask at the hospital.

Its a good idea to suggest reflex instead as will be a benifit on lots of different levels hadnt thought of that Opps. i could maybe also suggest i do top of back and shoulders avoiding lumber area and or some reflex.

Normally operations are contraindicated 3-6 months, depending on the type This is what I was always taught.

I always like to check with the GP if treatment is suitable or not, or can be adapted if I am in any doubt when there is a medical conition/history of surgery Jx
