Advice please! My plans have been scuppered! :o(

I really wanted to enrol on a VTCT Diploma in Body Massage to carry on from my Certificate in Body Massage, which finishes at the end of February, only to be blimmin told that so far they have had nobody else enrol so it probably won't actually happen (the course starts on 3rd February). I'm so gutted, was really looking forward to it.

So, unless another 9 people decide they want to enrol on this course within the next couple of weeks, I'm looking at alternative options; one of them being with TEACH Therapy in the Cardiff area. Their Advanced Massage Techniques course is appealing. Has anybody ever trained with them?

Or are there any DVD's anyone can recommend showing some more techniques? Is the Helen McGuiness 'Advanced Massage Techniques' any good? Although, if I just watch a DVD surely I'm not going to be able to put these techniques into practice unless I actually take a course?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I've not done any courses with TEACH so I can't comment on them. I have done a number of training courses with JING Advanced massage training and I highly recommend them. Their courses are not the cheapest but they are worth it. Most of their courses are done in Brighton- well Falmer to be exact but they do some in other parts of the country, The 3 day Foundation course gives you a taster of their various courses but also gives you new techniques that you can use straight away. Also you do not have to do the foundation course before you do any of their other courses. Check out their website www.jingmassage.com

I purchased a couple of Helen McGuiness Hot Stone DVDs some months ago and frankly was somewhat disappointed with them. They were expensive for just 60 minutes. I source most of my DVD training material from the US where the quality and depth of tuition is better IMHO.

As for practicing, I think it would depend on what exactly is included as 'advanced massage' - my insurer doesn't have 'advanced massage' as a therapy. The DVD you mention covers the use of standard massage techniques in targeted areas to achieve specific results but it also covers the use of trigger points which is generally a separate diploma/certicated course.

I would also recommend the advanced massage courses run by Jing.
As for DVDs, I bought a Helen McGuiness DVD some time ago and wasn't very impressed. If you want an advanced DVD, I would recommend 'Deep Tissue and Neuromusucular Therapy' by the American therapist Sean Riehl - a bit expensive but well worth it. If you want a cheaper option for revision purposes, [link=http://www.newworld.music.com]www.newworld.music.com[/link]are selling a good basic video called 'Swedish Massage' for just £2.99 - but it is VHS and not DVD.

I had asneaky look at the JING courses while I was at work yesterday.All looks really good but locations might be a bit difficult. Going to have a closer look today though.

I'm still really annoyed that I can't do the diploma. It's made it even more annoying as had a rubbish time last night at college. I started typing about this here but decided to do a separate post!

Going to have a look at the DVD's too.
