Acupuncture and massage for baby?

My 11month old has reflux and I have a friend that is suggesting Massage and acupuncture... Has anyone done this? Her physician says save your money, but... any thoughts?
Mommy to Alex and Mommyhood is good, you guys are right. I agree. She has been under a lot of stress, she had some scary muscle tightening due to this reflux and they did an EEG on her and PH probe, I am just trying to do what is best and least harmful to her.

I agree though, needles.. No go.. Thank you. I just needed help to open my eyes.

The EEG was done because infants with reflux can exhibit symptoms that look like infantile spams, which is a siezure and that is what she was doing. We spent 3 days at All Childrens Hospital.

If your child has reflux, why would you take them to a massage therapist or have acupuncture done on them?? Why not schedule them with a Peds Gastroenterologist and have them on some sort of medication to help with the reflux?

They can change the diets of small children or give them safe medication to take until the reflux passes. But then again, if you haven't had any testing done on your child it could be malrotation or even pyloric stenosis and massage or acupuncture wont to a thing for either of them.

Edit: An EEG is for a neuro issue, typically for seizure activity, it woudln't have anything to do with reflux or digestion.

That is too New Wave and woo-woo for this old-fashioned mom. Sticking needles into your baby when you don't have to?? nuh uh.

Massage however by Mommy is great. I loved just rubbing my baby's little backs or tummies, gently stroking their foreheads or scalp. It is one of the perks of being a mom.

Does your friend actually have any experience with reflux and seen these methods help? Personally I would never ever let my baby get acupuncture, they don't stay still enough for proper needle placement. Listen to the doctor if their treatment seems to be working. If not, speak with a trained professional in the field before making any decisions.

I personally would not do acupuncture on my baby. That's sticking needles on a child that would need to lay perfectly still so they can get the needle in the right place. And I have yet to see an 11 month old who will hold perfectly still!

Massage, however, is something you can do for your baby that both of you might enjoy. Whether it would help with the reflux or not, I don't know, but you can google infant massage or visit a massage therapist and ask them to show you how to do it.
