acne cyst

My 16 year old son has developed an acne cyst just below his eye/side of his nose, it's about 2cm by 1cm. The GP has put him on long term antibiotics and acne cream. He doesn't really have acne just the odd spot now and again so we've no idea where this cyst came from. My query is about oils to use to help with healing. I've checked all my books and can find info on acne or internal cysts but nothing to help in this situation. Any ideas please, poor love has been told it will take weeks to go away, thanks

Hi Trish

Firstly, what cream is your son on? This will give pointers for what to say next.

I do sympathise with your son, I've always had acne (I'm 48 and still get spots!), and sometimes stress can make things worse. Is he doing exams?

Or it could just be a rogue infection, hence the antibiotics.

As to your original question, what oil, then try this:

My textbooks would tell me tea tree but my urges tell me Lemon oil. Tea tree can be used neat (1 drop on a cotton bud), but I'm not sure about lemon oil.

Also, and I know your son would not be pleased at this idea, but try a visit to a beauty therapist! Some of them I've met while doing my holistic therapy course know more than most of the doctors I've come across, and by following their advice my acne is much improved.

Hope this helps - do tell us what's in that cream because there's something else to recommend once we know!

Petigrain oil and an oral zinc supplement, essential fatty acids (flaxseed and fish oils). Maybe also think about a good quality probiotic.

No sugar, wheat or saturated fats.(deffo no hydrogenated fats)

Many thanks folks. My son has been given Adapalene .01% cream and at least 28 days worth of Lymecycline 408mg (once per day).
The doc did suggest that he's been really unfortunate as his other acne barely merits being called that, just the odd spot really.
We did try Tea Tree when it first came up and it did seem to help but it dried the skin up so much we stopped it as it is very close to his eye and I was concerned. I'll look into the lemon oil and Petigrain thanks.
His diet is reaonable for a 16 year old and unless he gets it outside hydrogenated fats don't get in the house, but thatnks for the pther diet advise, I can but advise him, at 16 they do tend to know soo much more than their parents
The docs treatment does seem to have started to help, a little, but my instincts say that the sooner this goes the less chance of scarring, whcih seems to be common with the cysts.
