6 to 8 weeks for license, really?

Hi All,
I found my home for massage. I graduate December 16th. They say it will take 6-8 weeks to get my AZ license. Does anyone have any idea if it really takes this long. The gal really wants me to start before Feb 1. I'm ready to get started ASAP too!!

Wow, 6-8 weeks to get your license? NJ doesn't have a license yet, but I know state certification takes 6-10 months to get.

While I can't say how long AZ is currently taking, 6-8 weeks is not unusual. I just had to wait 7 weeks to get my FL establishment license.

Also can't comment on AZ, but 6-8 weeks is minimum in New Mexico for a new massage license.

I can't recall how long it took for mine, but I am pretty sure it was at least a month.

It will depend on if you hit it, when they are just about to go through a stack, or if they just sent out a bunch. That's how it works on most state boards, anyway. I am assuming AZ is similar. If they just processed, you'll probably wait longer, if they are just about to, then shorter wait. But I would say that 4-8 weeks is not uncommon. Many places will let you work while you are in the waiting time (probably not a great idea). But, there are places that will.

My last day of class is in mid-December, and I take the exam January 20th in NY. I graduate February 7 since it is after the exam. I have heard people waiting for about three weeks to a month to see if they passed the exams.

thank you all for your responses. I am so anxious to get started. I hear there could be negative consequences if I start before I get my license. Guess I'll sit on my hands till then. There will be plenty to do in order to get everything ready to go.

You can see if your school has continuing ed or volunteer opportunities, or just work on your cat (if your state allows... But many states allow for a temporary permit if you can find a boss between the time you take the exam and get your license.

thanks nyc. I don't meet the temporary licensure qualifications. Looks like my sons get some extra structural and trigger point since I don't have a cat :!:
